Revell BR 01

Not very long ago a friend from Germany who is into railroad modeling was kind enough to send me some of his static European steam locomotives that he did not need in his collection anymore because these days he only collects American models. One of the most beautiful H0 (1:87) scale static models in the package was Revell's item no. 2164, the Baureihe 01 express locomotive with ID 01 150. It is a very old Revell steam locomotive, manufactured back in 1983. The more recent equivalent Revell item is 02172, which is the same BR 01 express steam locomotive.

The DRG BR 01 was the first standardized steam locomotive built after the unification of the German railay system. A total of 231 such locos were built between 1926 and 1938 by important steam locomotive builders, such as Henschel & Sohn, Hohenzollern, Krupp and BMAG in five batches, each with minor upgrades: 01 001–010 (1926), 01 112–076 (1927–28), 01 077–101 (1930–31), 01 102–190 (1934–1936), 01 191–232 (1937–1938). They were destined to pull express passenger trains and their wheel arrangement was the Pacific type (4-6-2). The original top speed of the BR 01 locos was 120 km/h, but it was increased to 130 km/h beginning from BR 01 102.

BR 01 150 was built as part of the fourth batch, with Witte smoke deflectors. Today it is a DB museum piece. In 2005 it was severely damaged by a fire at Nuremberg and is awaiting its restoration.

Electric locomotive "1" at Dej Triaj Depot

At Dej Triaj depot there is a very old electric locomotive labeled simply "1". It is one of three similar locomotives built by A.E.G. and brought to Constanta, Romania in 1908 for maneuvers in the port. It has two engines with a total power of 110kW and its power is provided by a battery.

Snow Plow at Dej Calatori Station

Last summer I saw an interesting device at Dej Calatori station. It was one of CFR's snow plows. It seems that several exist in Romania. This one was "resting" on a secondary line close to the Dej Calatori station, here:

Its ID seems to be CFR UWPZ 30531004281-0. Unfortunately I could not find any information about it. I wonder when and where it was built, how long and where it was used, how it got where it is today...

You can see a similar american snow plow in action here:

Derelict narrow gauge locomotives at Viseu de Sus

Unfortunately one can see many derelict narrow gauge locomotives at Viseu de Sus. During my mocanita trip I walked by the depot near the CFF station. Among the locomotives that I could identify I also found 3 broken steam locomotives from the 764.000 series and a small diesel locomotive, that I could not. Not used for many years, their number plates are long gone. The small locos once used to run daily on the mocanita line of the Vaser Valley, but now they are damaged irreparably. Most likely they will be slowly dismembered, their parts used as replacement for the operational locos.

CFF Viseu de Sus 764.313

Another 764.000 series narrow gauge steam locomotive in a derelict state at Viseu de Sus is 764.313. This loco was not built by the locomotive factories at Resita, like the others. It was constructed in 1922 by the MÁVAG factories at Budapest, along with many other similar locos, for the forestry lines of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Unfortunately now it's in a very bad shape.

Facts:
ID: CFF 764.313
Wheel arrangement: 0-8-0T
Built: 1922
Builder: MÁVAG (Budapest)
Gauge: 760 mm
Location: CFF Viseu de Sus, Romania

CFF Viseu de Sus 764.436

One of the other steam locomotives at Viseu de Sus that is not functioning anymore is 764.436. Built by the "Uzinele Domeniilor" factories at Resita in 1954, it used to be in service on the Vaser Valley mocanita line beginning with 1962. It has the usual characteristics of the 764.000 series narrow gauge steamers: 150 CP power, 30 km/h maximum speed.
